Over the years we have lived in beautiful Golden State we have seen many popular attractions. Yet it is so vast that we still have a long list of places we need to cover. But on this 10 day road trip we did not want to rush and make it only about visiting popular tourist destinations. We designed this itinerary with photography as our main goal while having the best relaxing time.
Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve displays a brilliant orange carpet of California Poppies every spring. 70 miles north of Los angeles and 20 miles west of Lancaster, this reserve blooms between mid March to early May, influenced largely by the weather.
Living close in the LA area, it took us a while to make a trip to Sequoia National Park. We decided to visit this magnificent forest of the giants in December even though we knew most roads and sites would be closed during winter. Our main reason was photography, and of course we love some snow. We hit road after lunch and arrived at our hotel in Three rivers by sunset. We were in a rush to drive into the park, so we did, not knowing what to expect or how far to go. It was dark soon and before we could go too far, dense fog took over making it impossible to drive any further. We immediately turned around and drove our way back cautiously.
Baby Blues BBQ, Venice: Wanted to try this place since it was featured on diners drive ins and dives. It is a small bbq joint on Lincoln Blvd and parking was available across sunset ave at Smart & Final. Service was just as you would expect at a small busy joint. We ordered their Smoked Chicken platter and a beer (shiner bock). The juicy chicken came with cornbread, potato salad, and chicken smoked Rice which all taste delicious. Choice of sauces included XXX, original, hot, and sweet. XXX is spiced up with habaneros and is meant to be extremely spicy but we didn’t find it that way. Original bbq sauce was the best. Overall a nice experience.
